Postie Paul Shrimpton of North Yorkshire has made a killing as the £5000 winner of this year’s Zone Horror short film competition.
Made on a budget of £40, Shrimpton’s Hung Up stars Ozan Duzgoren as a man tied up in knots after his girlfriend is brutally murdered.
Judge Lloyd Kaufman, the maverick director responsible for giving a leg-up to the careers of Kevin Costner, Samuel L Jackson and South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, says of Shrimpton’s special delivery: “This movie is well hung – not like Ron Jeremy is well hung – in the sense that is well written, well shot and has a great special effect. Hung Up was great noose to me.”
Joining Kaufman on the judging panel was local horror hero Alan Jones and Wrong Turn 2 director Joe Lynch.
Shrimpton collected his prize at a special screening during last weekend’s FrightFest film festival, sponsored by TV channel Zone Horror.
In the cut-throat business of movie making, Zone Horror’s short film competition gives newcomers a chance to develop their film making skills and a platform to showcase the results.
